So I have been meaning to make this for quite sometime… This weekend I finally found some playtime and this was the finished result
The original idea didn’t have the holly in and had leaves and branches in place instead. But I was feeling festive and I love the new Berries & Birds stamp set so the Holly in that was perfect.
Here’s the Step by Step…
Firstly I painted the wooden heart using Distress Paint Frayed Burlap. Love the fact you don’t need a paint brush as it has a sponge applicator and you get a nice smooth finish. Apply one to two coats depending on the effect you want. Paint both sides of the heart.
Once the Frayed Burlap is dry. Add your Woodgrain Stencil over the top. I’ve used Tim Holtz THS023 Woodgrain Stencil. I then used Gathered Twigs Distress Paint through the stencil. Sorry for the messy stencil I have been experimenting a lot recently using this and didn’t clean it up properly ( Tut Tut ) but good news it still works perfectly – just looks a mess!
So one completed wood stain Heart. Now you need the decorations…
I used one of the Owls from CS066D Owls set. For this exercise I think I will call him Boris and two Holly branches from CS082D Berries & Birds. Colour these in however you would like, I used a mix of ProMarkers and Copics.
Then here comes the bit you either Love or Hate… The Cutting out. Most of you who will know me know I love cutting out, I just turn the telly on and sit there and cut out.
You only need the owl and I used the two smaller hollies on the right hand side and layered them up and stuck them onto the wood using Pinflair Glue. I also added Glossy Accents to the Berries and the Owls eyes (Please make sure it’s all dry) Then add a bit of ribbon and you are done 😀
So after I finished this my head was buzzing with what I wanted to do next… I’ve started my next project (coming soon)
Right that’s all for now I’m going to go and finish my other Project.
