Alexandra here with a little blog post for you. I got the May monthly special a few days ago and I had the very real urge to play with them. They were calling me saying “we are like a little mini-holiday, play with us!” So I did 🙂 When I first stamped them I couldn’t stop thinking how they reminded me of postcards you would send from a holiday at the seaside. One the more whimsical, slightly arty one I could easily send to my mother-in-law who would adore this, the other more the serene, realistic looking one that my late father would have liked. Which one should I go with?
So, of course I had to do both!
I tried to do the realistic one a bit more masculine (as I said, I was thinking of my dear dad) and stamped it in chocolate brown directly onto a kraft card base. I then simply highlighted parts of the image with a white pencil and added low lights with a light brown pen. A cream ribbon, knotted to the side of the image (to distract from the fact the image ends a bit abruptly on my card) and a stamped sentiment (from the Seaside Cottage Set) to finish off a very quick card that I still rather like.
For my second card I pulled out some pens and tried to colour my black on white image with lots of blue-green tones as well as the obligatory red and some muted yellows and grey-browns. To accent the turquoise that seems to pop most in the image I matted it onto deep turquoise card and added some ribbon of a matching colour. Again the same sentiment as on the other card, this time stamped in turquoise.
Although both cards were fairly quick and simple to put together I am happy with the outcome and they fit exactly for the intended recipients in my head. Hope you like them as well!
